Almaty 24/7: Tokayev Orders Transformation into a Global "City That Never Sleeps

In an interview with the Turkistan newspaper, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev revealed that he has instructed the Akim of Almaty to transform the city into a 24/7 tourist hub, modeled after the world’s leading metropolises.

The Head of State noted that the development of tourism is currently hindered by "pseudo-eco-activists" and a lack of competition in certain sectors. He also emphasized the urgent need to modernize the Shymbulak mountain resort. According to the President, while the resort’s location is unique, it has become outdated and requires a fresh approach to development.

Tokayev added that the Almaty mountain cluster must be made accessible to tourists with varying income levels. For the city itself to operate around the clock, he stressed that infrastructure, landscaping, and lighting must be significantly improved.

 "I have instructed the Akim to turn Almaty into a city that, like New York, Moscow, and Paris, 'never sleeps'—operating 24/7 in the interest of its guests," the Head of State said.
