In the Mazhilis, Askhat Aimagambetov expressed his opinion on restricting smartphones for schoolchildren. According to him, children have become dependent on phones and are unable to engage in social interactions.

“We need to take more measures to properly organize children’s free time. Simply saying ‘let’s just ban it’ is not enough,” he said.

The deputy emphasized the importance of paying special attention to children’s socialization.

“School is not just a place for lessons; it’s also important for children to interact with each other and make friends during breaks,” said Askhat Aimagambetov.

He also highlighted the dangers of online games.

“Through some popular games, there have been cases in the U.S. and the U.K. where adults organized meetings with children, and even instances of sexual assault were reported. Suicides have also occurred. This requires a rational approach. First and foremost, a comprehensive systemic approach is needed. Limiting smartphone use in schools is one of these measures. Children aged five and nine cannot spend the whole day on TikTok, as it negatively affects their health. Therefore, it is important to expand extracurricular activities and clubs,” the deputy said.

It is worth noting that in Kazakhstan, a draft law banning children under 16 from using social networks is currently under discussion. The debate on the draft will continue until December 29.
