Measures to ensure road safety in the metropolis have been significantly intensified. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 850,000 traffic violations have been recorded on the city's roads. This was announced by the Head of the Almaty Police Department, Aidyn Kabduldinov.
According to the head of the department, maintaining road discipline is a top priority for a metropolis with such a dense traffic flow.
"Every violation on the road is a potential risk to people's lives and health. Our task is not only to detect such facts but also to form a culture of responsible behavior among all road users," Kabduldinov emphasized.
During the first four months of the year, police officers identified several severe categories of lawbreaking:
• Over 700 cases of driving under the influence (DUI);
• 724 instances of individuals driving without a valid driver's license;
• 960 cases of individuals getting behind the wheel after having already been stripped of their driving privileges.
Additionally, authorities successfully intercepted other life-threatening violations, such as the use of counterfeit license plates and driving into oncoming traffic.
Infrastructure Oversight and Inspections
Law enforcement is monitoring more than just driver behavior; the quality of the roads themselves is also under scrutiny. Since the start of the year:
• 670 inspections of the street and road network have been conducted;
• Over 600 improvement orders were issued;
• 42 officials responsible for road conditions have been held administratively liable.
The Police Department also recalled the devastating accident that occurred on March 21 at the intersection of Mendykulov Street. A collision between a Mercedes and a Zeekr resulted in the immediate deaths of the Mercedes driver and two female passengers at the scene.
Currently, a criminal investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash, serving as a grim reminder of the consequences of violating road safety protocols.
