52 People Poisoned in Almaty: Case Details Revealed

A criminal case has been initiated in Almaty following the poisoning of 52 people on a train, the press service of theTransport Police Department reported. The incident occurred at the “Almaty-2” railway station, on a train specially allocated for a film shoot. Among the victims, 10 were children, two of whom are in the intensive care unit.

According to a witness who saw the situation on the train, it was very cold in the carriage, so participants in the shoot started using a small gas heater. However, due to the lack of ventilation, poisonous gas accumulated inside the carriage, and people’s condition quickly deteriorated. The witness said that at that moment there was panic in the carriage, and several women lost consciousness. A decision was made to immediately move passengers to another carriage.

“A criminal case has been registered under Article 156 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan — ‘Violation of labor protection rules.’ Necessary investigative actions are underway, and procedural decisions will be made after all circumstances of the incident are clarified,” the statement said.
