Police in Queensland, Australia, have uncovered one of the largest cybercrimes in the country's history. A 27-year-old man, who deliberately targeted children on gaming platforms and social media, is facing 596 charges involving 459 victims, reports the BBC.

Between 2018 and 2025, the suspect created various online profiles, posing as both a man and a woman. Using popular apps and games, he engaged in "grooming" children aged between 7 and 15, gaining their trust before coercing or blackmailing them into sending sexually explicit materials. During the search, authorities discovered over 23,000 photos and videos on his electronic devices, which he had meticulously organized into folders.

According to police data, of the 459 victims, more than 200 are located in Australia, while the rest reside in 15 different countries, primarily English-speaking nations. To date, 360 children have been identified. Investigators are working with international partners to locate the remaining victims and provide them with psychological support.

Detective Denzil Clark warned that children are frequently exposed to such dangers through popular games and social networks.

"This causes irreparable damage to a child's psyche. Criminals deceive and intimidate children to exploit them for their depraved purposes," he stated.

The court hearing for the suspect is scheduled for this Thursday. Police are currently investigating whether other individuals are involved in the case.
